TEGMA Announces 2023 AFA Scholars
We are pleased to announce the recipients of TEGMA’s 2023 AFA Leader and Academic Scholars! Three competitive academic scholarships have been awarded through Agriculture Future of America to these high preforming collegiate students who have expressed interest in careers in grain merchandising.
TEGMA’s 2023 AFA Scholars are:
Claire Carpenter (Millerton, IA)
Agribusiness Management, Iowa State University
Claire grew up in a small town in southern Iowa where she has been surrounded by agriculture her whole life. This fall she will be a freshman in agriculture business at Iowa State University where she hopes to be involved in many clubs and organizations. Throughout her time as a Cyclone she will network with other agriculturalists and grow her knowledge in the industry .Upon graduation she hopes to work in sales or marketing of agriculturalproducts.
Colin Lewis (Tuscola, IL)
Agriculture Economics, University of Illinois
Colin is currently a Senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign majoring in Agricultural and Consumer Economics. He spent this summer as a Commodity Trading Intern with Archer Daniels Midland in Decatur, IL. His plan is to pursue a Grain Merchandising or Commodity Trading role in the agricultural industry after graduation from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Grace Walenta (Peoria, IL)
Agronomy and Global Food Systems, Kansas State University
Grace is originally from Peoria, Illinois but moved to Kansas to pursue her education. She is majoring in Agronomy with a business and industry focus along with a secondary major in Global Food Systems Leadership and a minor in International Agriculture. Outside of school, she enjoys swing dancing, traveling, and baking. She is excited to continue studying agriculture at K-State and hopes to work towards the continual improvement of the future of agriculture in America and worldwide.

TEGMA is in the fourth year of its Educational Initiative. At a matching level of support, TEGMA has also partnered with MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences). Scholarship recipients from both programs have been invited to attend TEGMA's Fall Symposium in Kansas City.
